Nord-Irland

Northern Ireland is a part of the United Kingdom located on the island of Ireland. It shares a border with the Republic of Ireland to the south and west. Established in 1921, Northern Ireland was created as a distinct administrative region, with its own government and institutions, although it is subject to UK sovereignty. The capital and largest city is Belfast. Northern Ireland has a complex political history, particularly marked by conflict known as “The Troubles,” which lasted from the late 1960s to the 1998 Good Friday Agreement that sought to address issues of national identity, governance, and sectarian violence between mainly Protestant and Catholic communities. Today, Northern Ireland functions with a devolved government and has unique cultural and social dynamics reflective of its historical background.
